The Green Maritime & Port Alliance

The Green Maritime and Port Alliance aims to strengthen cooperation and dialogue between the U.S. and Denmark by leveraging the expertise of its members on maritime innovation, particularly within competencies and capabilities that underpin the green transition.

The shipping industry plays an indispensable role in the global supply chain, being responsible for transporting 90% of the world's commodities and roughly 26 % of the U.S’ economy. With the current US administration announcing more than $3 billion to fund zero-emission ports development and $703 million to improve US ports infrastructure and strengthening the supply chain. The US maritime sector embarks on a monumental transformation while upholding its commitment to delivering high-quality shipping services. With this responsibility, Danish innovators hold substantial potential to provide the essential solutions required to drive this change.

By leveraging the expertise of its members, the alliance aims to generate significant benefits for both countries by creating more sustainable ports, green jobs, and a cleaner environment. The Alliance aims to foster cooperation between prominent DK-US ports, maritime firms, local and national authorities, and industry associations and research organizations in both countries. The alliance will support the development and market implementation of cutting-edge technologies and solutions for a more sustainable maritime sector focusing on port development.

Encouraged by governmental ambitions and industrial initiatives, North America is shifting its shipping focus towards sustainability and renewable sources, making it one of the current hotspots for this transition. Here, The United States and Denmark share a common commitment to facilitating the green transition of the global maritime sector.

Being one of the world's leading maritime nations as well as a front runner in the green transition, Denmark can contribute with solutions and ideas to the US port and maritime sector. The scale and intensity of the US port and maritime sector can be a source of inspiration and opportunity to make the maritime sector more sustainable moving forward, creating the opportunity for future matchmaking between Danish and American companies.

The Green Maritime and Port Alliance is a joint initiative by The Trade Council of (TCNA), the Danish Maritime Authority, Embassy of Denmark in The USA, and other Danish partners, including prominent companies, industry associations, research institutions, and universities.
