Export Strategy for water

Denmark's export strategy for water

The Danish Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Business have in November 2021 launched an export strategy for water with the ambition of doubling Danish exports of water technology and services.
Water is one of the world's most important natural resources and access to water is essential for a good life. But water is also a part of some of the biggest global challenges such as problems with access to clean water, flooding and dealing with untreated wastewater in a sustainable way. Danish companies are among the global leaders when it comes to water technology and water solutions, and their solutions can contribute to solving the global challenges.

In order for Denmark to continue contributing in the fight against climate change and support the global green transition, it is important to pool efforts and share the responsibility as a united group. Therefore, Denmark’s Export Strategy for Water has been launched by the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Business, Industry and Financial Affairs in close partnership with the water sector. The strategy sets a united framework for Danish export efforts within water technology for the coming years.

The strategy's vision is that the Danish water sector helps solving the world's water and climate adaptation problems. More specifically it sets the goal of doubling of Danish export of water technology and services from DKK 20 billion DKK in 2019 to 40 billion DKK 2030.

The strategy has been created in a public-private partnership with various players in the water sector, including companies, utilities, advisers, industry organisations and universities.
